Following our review, 27 articles were deemed eligible. We identified a significant correlation between the presence of TI and the severity of PTSD symptoms, with a correlation coefficient of 0.39 (95% confidence interval 0.34-0.44; p < 0.0001). Females demonstrated a greater severity of TI (Cohen's d = 0.37, 95% CI 0.25-0.48; p < .0001), particularly in the context of interpersonal aggression. Performing a meta-analysis of TI's effect on PTSD, both in terms of onset and progression, was restricted by the limited availability of longitudinal data. Still, the available literature seems to underscore the involvement of TI in both the inception and duration of PTSD.
